Update: London police announced on Sept. 9 that Cain was arrested again and received an additional charge on Sept. 8. According to police, Cain breached a condition of his release by being at a south London community centre “while not in the direct and continuous presence of his surety” on Sept. 3.
Cain was subsequently charged with one count of failure to comply with a release order and had a court appearance scheduled for Sept. 9.
A London public school teacher and hockey volunteer is facing charges after a girl was sexually assaulted over the course of a number of months.
Police said they began investigating in August after a report that a Bonaventure Meadows Public School teacher began emailing a school-aged girl in January 2025.
Jamie Cain, 43, has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference with a person under the age of 16, and luring a person under 16 years by means of telecommunication.
Police say the girl was taken to the man’s home in April and sexually assaulted. The girl was also touched inappropriately at school in June, officers said in a statement.
Cain was on a contract at Bonaventure Meadows Public School for the last eight years, school board officials said. He was also a volunteer with the Devilettes girls’ hockey association, the organization said Friday afternoon.
“The London Devilettes Girls Hockey Association has been made aware of deeply concerning charges laid against a London man, who was a volunteer with our organization,” the hockey club said in a social media post.
“Effective immediately, this individual has been removed from all team responsibilities and will no longer have any involvement with the London Devilettes Girls Hockey Association in any capacity.”
Cain declined to comment when approached at his home on Friday. He was first registered with the Ontario College of Teachers in 2010, and was listed in good standing at the time police announced the charges.
In a statement to CBC, the college said it is aware of the charges, but was unable to comment on investigations or confirm that it’s conducting an internal investigation.
It said members who are subject to criminal charges that “are relevant to their ability to teach” will have a notice prepared and posted to their page on the public teacher registry.
The Thames Valley District School Board said in an email Friday that Cain has not worked at a TVDSB school this fall and is not allowed on school board properties. The board was informed of the accusations against him when police laid charges, a spokesperson said.
Police said there may be additional victims, and are appealing to the community to contact police or Crime Stoppers, if they have information.
Supports are being offered to people at the Bonaventure Meadows school community, according to the board, which said a traumatic event response team is on-site.
