A male teacher at an elementary school in London’s east end is charged with sexually assaulting a female student, London police say.
Police said Friday they were notified in August of an alleged sexual assault involving a teacher at Bonaventure Meadows public school near the intersection of Dundas Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway in London.
The teacher began emailing a girl in January, police said, and in April he brought her to his home where she was sexually assaulted. Investigators also learned the teacher touched her inappropriately at school in June, police said.
Jamie Cain, 43, of London is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference with a person under the age of 16, and luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication, police said.
Cain appeared in court on Sunday and was released from custody. He is scheduled to reappear on Sept. 22, police said.
“Investigators believe that there may be additional (complainants) and are appealing to members of the public to contact them if they have any information in relation to this investigation, or if they know of similar incidents,” police said in a news release.
Police ask anyone with information that would aid in the investigation to call London police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
“The London Police Service is deeply committed to protecting the safety and well-being of all members of our community, especially our most vulnerable. Ensuring public safety is our highest priority and we remain dedicated to providing support to victims,” police said.
A spokesperson for the Thames Valley District school board said Cain hasn’t attended Bonaventure Meadows school and is not permitted on any board properties.
As of Friday morning, Cain is listed as being in good standing on the website of the Ontario College of Teachers.
The college says he was certified as a teacher in August 2010 and holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Windsor and a bachelor of education degree from the University of Ottawa.
Cain is qualified to teach primary and junior divisions and special education and completed a sexual abuse prevention program, the college says.
